Back in 2015 I made a video demoing some of my instruments and one of them was my Turkish Cümbüş (pronounced: jumbush) with nylon strings.
I hated the metal strings on my Cümbüş I bought when backpacking in Turkey, and so one day I haphazardly put on nylon strings to make it more like an Oud-Rubab-like instrument.
Later, Sylvain from sbd-projets.com started modifying Cümbüş specifically for nylon strings and his signature style hoops that make it easier to hold.
I have been meaning to share this unboxing video to promote his work, and so here it is.
In this video you’ll see how well packaged the instrument comes and the first sounds right out of the box with a simple smartphone.
Sylvain diligently updated me on the progress of the work and it took about two months to complete. He sent emails and pictures. I really love when luthiers make an effort to show the progress.
There’s nothing worse than paying a deposit on an instrument and then you get complete radio silence and your emails don’t get answered.
Sylvain has the right approach to customer service.
