With this video you can change Oud strings like a pro.
Changing Oud strings for the first time can be a very daunting task.
A few weeks ago I did a YouTube Live stream showing you exactly how I change Oud strings.
Here I share valuable tips that I haven’t shared anywhere else.
New Oud Foundation Program
This month we were able to film a bunch of new tutorials that are becoming part of a new Oud Foundation Program.
Do you want to learn Oud properly but have no idea where to start?
Do you want a cohesive, comprehensive, and systematic approach to learning the new?
Do you have limited access to an Oud teacher?
Then you need to check out this program.
Sign up here to be the first to hear about its release.

Need new Oud strings?
I always recommend https://oudstrings.com if you’re living in the USA. Otherwise, you can buy on Ebay, or Amazon. Just search for your preferred brand of Oud string.
Don’t know what Oud strings to get? Most Oud strings are good. Just make sure you know what tuning you use. Don’t buy a Turkish string set if you use Arabic tuning on an Arabic size Oud or vice versa…
Have doubts and need more info? Go to my post about Oud strings.
Oudstrings.com also has a great FAQ page.
How often should I change Oud strings?
I recommend changing your Oud strings every 4-6 months. But most of the time I change my strings every 8 months to a year. That’s just my preference. I like a duller sound.
A luthier friend John Vergara who makes nice Ouds thinks that oxidized (old) Ouds strings contribute to fingerboard wear-and-tear. So it might be a good idea to change your Ouds strings every 3-6 month depending on how oxidized they are. If your strings are turning yellow or brown then that means they are oxidizing.
