Now I’m going to show you a simple level above what is shown in Part 1. This is Doubling Up Part 2. What you’re going to learn is one of the hallmarks of good Oudmanship. It is truly a great Oud technique.

Doubling Up Part 2 – Oud Technique

What?

We are taking a simple string of notes, and adding extra notes in between those notes to spice up the passage. In musical notation it would look like this:

Why?

It is a great way of highlighting the Oud in ways that sound great for the instrument. The Oud is all about melody, and this Oud technique adds rhythmical gusto to something very simple.

How?

Add a note above your starting note, and for every note in the passage.

      I generally use Arabic tuning CFADgc low to high strings.
