Can you play Rock music on the Oud?
Hell yes!
And why not?
I’ve decided to test the limits of the Oud’s ability to play different types of music, and I’ve decided to try my hand at Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze, because why not? No one has done it before! It’s time to expand the repertoire of the Oud.
Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze
Jimi Hendrix was practically a deity to me back when I was in high school, playing electric Guitar in my room. I lived and breathed Hendrix. Here’s my homage to a legendary Guitar player who bent notes like none other.
How to play Purple Haze on Oud
In order to play this on the Oud, I had to decide which key to play this in. So I chose the key of G. My Oud is tuned the way I always tune it. C F D A g c (low to high). To play the bent notes on Oud, it’s best to use a slide technique.
Who am I, and what is an Oud?

What do you think of him?
Oh of course, I know Alshaiba. I like his work. He’s doing a great job. Oud players need to do more work like this, hence who I did this cover of Purple Haze.
Marvellous, wonderful technique and musicality!
