Remember my posts on Farid Al Atrash Taqsim Al Rabeea? How did I learn some intricate parts of his taqsim, especially the really fast parts?
I used an Oud learning tool called the Amazing SlowDowner. It’s a nice little app I downloaded to my phone. It’s great for practicing songs, transcribing them, and learning them by ear.
One of the problems Oud players often have is tuning our instrument. So when you want to learn a song by ear and the tuning of the Oud on the recording is different than your own Oud, it can be really time consuming to change the tuning of your Oud to the recording. So the Amazing SlowDowner solves this problem by allowing you to change the pitch of the recording without sacrificing sound quality too much or changing the tempo.
I had tested programs like Transcribe, which is a great program. But when I found that the Amazing SlowDowner has a mobile app, I couldn’t resist because the price point is quite good. For my uses, it has everything I need.
Here’s how I use the Amazing SlowDowner as an Oud learning tool.
